Venue: The Rainbow 4 and Rainbow 5 Go Go Bars are located on the first floor of Nana Plaza (second floor by the Thai numbering system), almost at the opposite corner from Spanky’s, and are considered among the most popular Go Go Bars for Japanese customers. Inside Rainbow 5, there are large stages, but they aren’t very well designed, as it’s almost impossible to get a good view of both from any point in the room, especially from the more distant padded booths/benches/stands. The view is slightly better from the high tables (bar stools), but the only way to follow both stages well is to sit on a stool in the central corridor, turning your head left and right, which isn’t exactly comfortable. The ambiance is less “luxurious” than other Go Go Bars, such as Billboard or Butterflies, but the high foot traffic in the area makes the two Rainbow venues very popular and often crowded.
Girls: It’s difficult to give an exact estimate, but we can say there are around a hundred girls across the two venues, who take turns between the stage and the floor in various shifts. Most of them are young and attractive, although some aren’t the most active on the scene, and many seem more interested in chatting among themselves rather than properly entertaining the customers. However, overall, there are enough girls who provide pleasant company.
Prices: Soft Drinks 130 Baht. Beer 170 Baht – Lady Drink 220 Baht. – Barfine from 1000 Baht. Short Time 3500 Baht. Long Time 6000 Baht. (Of course, the prices for the girls are indicative and can vary from one to another for any number of reasons: the girl’s popularity, her attitude towards the customer, etc. In this regard, it’s not uncommon for the same girl to offer and accept different rates with different customers.)
Opening hours: Daily from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Restaurant/Bar: Classic Go-Go Bar menu with no particular options.
Note: Rainbow 4 and Rainbow 5 are part of the “Rainbow” chain, a series of Go-Go Bars located in Nana Plaza, which are particularly popular with Asian clientele, especially Japanese (not coincidentally, next to the entrance, you can spot the Japanese writing レインボー, which consists of レイン “Rain” and ボー “Bow” and is the literal translation of the English word “Rainbow” – “Reinbō”; whereas the Kanji for Rainbow in English/Arcobaleno in Italian is 虹, which is pronounced “Niji” in Japanese, roughly sounding like “Nisi” in Italian / Neecee in English).
Putting linguistic diversions aside, the Rainbows in Nana Plaza cater to that specific type of clientele, and many of the girls embody the typical preferences of Japanese visitors: slim body, doll-like faces, and fair skin. However, there are always a variety of non-Asian visitors, who are always welcome as long as they are willing to spend. Both bars are often very crowded, even with Westerners.
The drink prices are average, but the rates for Long Time and Short Time services are among the highest. The quality of the girls is generally good, but if you happen to encounter girls who are either not very interested in Westerners or simply not in the mood, they might not be as playful or participatory as expected. That said, the level of interaction is generally in line with the usual standards, meaning fondling, grinding, and little more. Naturally, it also depends on how likable you are to the girl and whether you’re generous or not when offering Lady Drinks. Staff can be slightly “pushy” on some occasions (especially if the Venue is full), but usually no one stresses you out unless you sit with the same beer for half an hour without even inviting a Girl to drink.
In short: The GoGo Bars 4 and 5 of the Rainbow chain are located next to each other, so it’s not uncommon to find some girls from both venues eating or chatting with each other in the corridor between the two entrances. Rainbow 5, in particular, is one of the largest GoGo Bars in Nana Plaza, as well as one of the most frequented, and this is almost entirely due to the good quality of the girls rather than the location. In fact, despite having two stages and a larger floor area than average, it doesn’t offer anything particularly captivating, and there are no fun or erotic performances like you might find at Angel Witch or Spanky’s, moreover it is also one of the least brightly lit venues and has a rather anonymous interior, but since it is now one of the ‘historical’ venues of the Plaza and has a respectable lineup of girls, it is definitely worth a visit. Both are certainly good choices if you prefer a quick take-away; however, if your intention is to spend the evening drinking and hanging out in the venue, there are other GoGo bars that are more ‘party-oriented’ and better suited for that purpose.
