Just finished the third week, and here I am again writing from the little balcony of the rented apartment in Bangkok after the short ‘maritime’ break in Pattaya. Naturally, I only saw the sea a couple of times from Beach Road, because maybe not everyone knows, but the sea in Pattaya is pretty bad, and I’m using a mild term ^^.
If, instead, someone wants beautiful beaches and crystal-clear water like in the photos from travel agencies, you just go to the pier and, for a few bucks, take a boat to Koh Larn, and maybe even reach Koh Phai, which is a little further away. As for me, I went there a couple of times years ago and that’s enough — I like the sea atmosphere, but I’m not a big fan of beach days; a walk or an evening with company is fine, but I prefer something else.
Anyway, it was a holiday within the holiday, and as such I managed it in a loop of fun and relaxation: GoGo and other bars in the evening, wild nights, sleep in the morning, pool in the afternoon, and then between one thing and another there’s food and a couple of little purchases here and there. All very relaxed, more or less.
The Go Go Bar (or Agogo, as you’ll sometimes see it written) of LK METRO in Pattaya are various and diverse. I visited quite a few; in others I just popped in once and left because there was no inspiration and they were practically empty. Maybe it’s low season, and this year, according to everyone, there’s less tourism than usual in Thailand. The fact remains that, in general, I noticed an excess of girls everywhere compared to the customers, which I don’t mind at all, but on the other hand, it makes the atmosphere a bit less lively than when there’s more activity.
I still confirm Paradise as one of my favorites, even though I noticed a drop in the overall quality of the girls since last time. But I also picked up two of them, one of whom even kindly offered her ass, so I can’t complain. Regarding this one, it was interesting, and here’s why: she was the typical girl with a nice look and a sly expression — the kind who won’t move a finger if you offer just one drink. Each bar has its own ‘price list,’ and not all the girls ask for the same rate, but a Short-Time costs on average 3,000 Baht, which, unlike the barfine, is paid directly to the girl in the room.
The other Go Go Bars worth mentioning that I visited are Crystal and Queen, nice venues but in these days they seemed a bit subdued, especially Crystal. Then there’s Peachy Lily, which, if you’re into Ladyboys, isn’t bad; otherwise, don’t go in, because although there are a few appealing ones, there you’ll only find girls with a penis ^^. Anyway, for each individual club I’ll add a Review Sheet in the dedicated section of the website. I’ve taken notes and will get to work on it as soon as I find the time once I’m back at my station in Italy, because doing everything from the laptop as I’m doing now would be too demanding and approximate. Among the myriad of bars in the area, I allow myself to recommend one for its calm atmosphere and the friendliness of the girls. The bar in question is called BarFine, a name a destiny, as they say. I would describe it as an excellent hotel with a perfectly reasonable price, but its strongest point remains the location, right in the middle of everything useful and necessary in the neighborhood and less than 50 meters from the start (or the end, depending on which side you enter) of the nighttime chaos of LK METRO. You can find both reviews in the Hotels section of the website, but honestly, between the two I would choose Areca Lodge, even though I am a loyal guest of the Adelphi, which says a lot.
Small parenthesis about food: I found and re-discovered some noteworthy little restaurants. The first is the well-known ‘Little Brother,’ which I’ve mentioned before (for example here, or here), located on 2nd Road. A very good spot for grilled meat is FLAME, in Soi Lengkee, the street almost opposite Soi 13 where Areca Lodge is located, but on the other side of Soi Buakhao. Flame is basically a grill house, but not only that; there are many meat specialties, and the quality is very good. On Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. they serve the Sunday Roast — a plate with 250 g of meat of your choice, along with baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, cauliflower with cheese, a small omelet, a tasty sausage, and various vegetables, all for 495 Baht. I tried it and it was all very good. I highly recommend it, even though I haven’t had the chance to try other dishes. It’s not as cheap as Thai restaurants serving Thai food, but it’s worth it if you’re craving meat.
What else to say: checking out from Areca Lodge took me only 5 minutes, and for the return trip I relied once again on 12GO.ASIA, booking in advance a ‘Comfort’ taxi from my hotel in Pattaya to my apartment in Bangkok, somewhat like the ones from Bolt that I had tried to book, but during payment it kept giving an error, so I did everything again with 12GO, which so far has never disappointed me. If instead you need a taxi on the fly, I still recommend Bolt; in that it works well (but it costs a bit more for long trips, which is why I prefer to book in advance — you save a bit and avoid possible last-minute surprises).
